As mountainbiking becomes faster and faster and the terrain even more technical, the M8100 series aims to give the rider the necessary feeling of confidence and safety. Following the principle of passing on the experiences and technologies of the top series, the Deore XT incorporates the innovations of the high-end XTR components.

The RD-M8150-11 rear derailleur, optimized specifically for E-MTBs, combines race-proven quality with proven Shimano technology to maintain the right flow on the Trail in all conditions. So that the cyclist can fully dedicate his concentration to the optimal riding line, the Shadow RD+ rear derailleur is also equipped with the innovative AUTO SHIFT and FREE SHIFT functions.

While Auto-Shift helps Trail bikers maintain their flow uphill and downhill as well as in transitions, Free-Shift allows the E-MTB to exit any incline or turn in a controlled manner, as no pedaling is required during shifting. To provide a simpler and more direct E-MTB experience, full system integration was the watchword when designing the electronic Top Normal rear derailleur. This goal was implemented by seamlessly merging drivetrain technology, E-Bike system components and intelligent shifting.

In practice, this means not only faster and more precise shifting processes in any terrain, but also smoother shifting behavior despite the heavier chain load typical for E-Mountain bikes. Combined with a cassette that features LinkGlide technology, the result is a high-quality and durable drivetrain system that always guarantees reliable shifting performance. Power is supplied directly from the bike's STePS battery (cassette and battery each sold separately).

AUTO SHIFT | The function measures the rider's pedaling dynamics to decide on the appropriate gear ratio and automatically perform shifting operations. As cadence and speed decrease and torque increases, the system selects an easier gear. When starting off and accelerating, the system in turn automatically shifts up. This not only increases riding comfort, but also ensures a smooth and consistent cadence during climbing as well as descents.

FREE SHIFT | This function enables the drivetrain system to perform shifting operations without the use of pedal force. For this purpose, the drive unit emits just enough power at idle to trigger a shifting operation at the cassette without affecting the acceleration of the bike. In downhill use, there is thus more time to plan the right line and to take a more stable riding position.

Shadow RD+ | Quiet drivetrain, less distraction. The Shadow RD+ system is lighter and more efficient than roller type chain devices. A rear derailleur stabilizer reduces chain slap and is a simple solution to prevent chain drop as well.
